I spent few days documenting the life of Mikko in July 2018. The 26 old Tohmajärvi native living in Joensuu spends long periods of time at his grandfathers old house in Sikosuo which is a small village in Finnish Karelia near the Russian border. The nearest town Tohmajärvi is 20 kilometres away and the nearest city Joensuu 60 kilometres. In the modern world a 26 year old enjoying spending time at such a place is rare. The chores that need to be done in the countryside are also alien for millennials. Cutting the firewood, fishing, farming, maintaining the tools and machines and making sure that the house stays in shape used to be ordinary every day things for people in the past. Living in the countryside can be hard but there is also another side to it. Life is slow and it is focused in things that actually matter. In the silence near the nature you can actually hear your own thoughts as they are not blurred by the commercials and all the visual pollution.
